1957 Maserati 250F Released.
Regarded by many as the definitive front-engined Formula One car, the Maserati 250F was first unleashed in the 1954 season. Over the next few years, this beguiling single-seater would contest a total of 46 Formula One Grand Prix, claiming eight poles and seeing eight checkered flags.
Having tasted fleeting success at the hands of racing legend Juan Manuel Fangio, whose two wins at the wheel of a 250F contributed to his 1954 Drivers Championship victory, the little Maserati would not only lose its prized driver to the newly-formed Mercedes-Benz team, but it would also cede its short-lived Grand Prix primacy.
However, everything was to change in 1957 thanks to the return of El Maestro and some much-needed modifications to the 250F 2.5-liter straight six, which increased its power from 240 bhp to a title-challenging 270 bhp. Sure enough, the 1957-vintage 250F carried Fangio to four victories including one of the greatest comebacks ever witnessed in Formula One racing, at the Nurburgring and his fifth Drivers Championship. Its place in history was assured.
