$200,000 Virtual Visa Vegas e-Race
This weekend, the FIA Formula E Championship which is the world’s first fully-electric racing series, will pit some of the leading names in motorsport against sim racers in a virtual race in Las Vegas dubbing it ‘The biggest sim race of all time’.
The Road to Vegas Challenge, organized by Cloud Sport, the series of online qualifying races did lead to 10 gamers/sim racers having the chance to race against the 20 Formula E drivers in the Virtual Visa Vegas eRace. The Free Practice will be held on Friday, January 6 in the Las Vegas Venetian Hotel with the 14 laps Qualify Race and 28 laps Main Race following a day later.
We are not totally convinced that the sim race itself will be the biggest in eSports racing history, but the prize pot certainly is. The winner of the Virtual Vegas e-Race will go home with a whopping $200,000, while the pole sitter will be rewarded with $20,000. The fastest lap of the race is still good for another $10,000.
The race will be broadcast live across the world at www.twitch.tv and on the FIA Formula E website. The virtual race will be powered by the rFactor 2 racing simulation software. All contenders will make use of the same Playseat gaming rig.
Today the FIA uploaded a video revealing the virtual Formula E – Las Vegas Strip Circuit layout by means of a full Onboard lap.
Get some popcorn and make sure to fire up that live-stream. Who will be your favorite?
