Simrig SR1 Motion System Review By The SRG

A few days ago, Barry Rowland of the Sim Racing Garage reviewed the Lightweight Swedish Rig Designs Aluminum Extrusion Cockpit. This chassis is intended for use with the SimRig SR1 Motion System which is a high-quality 3DOF 4 actuator motion system for under €3000.

Now Barry takes an in-depth look at the SimRig SR1 Motion System and takes it through the ultra-detailed SRG review process.

The SIMRIG SR1 is a powerful 3-DOF motion system. Built and developed in-house with a simple goal: ease-of-use and affordability. The system achieves heave, roll, and pitch, using four actuators mounted at the corners of your aluminum rig.

It reacts to accelerations by tilting the rig in any direction. The system reacts to bumps and curbs by moving up and down. The SR1 connects to your PC via a USB-cable and communicates to your favorite racing simulator software through the SimRig SR1 Control Center.

TheSimRig SR1 Motion System is available via the official SimRig website for a very competitive €2900 (inc. VAT) + Shipping.

SimRig

Features:

Heave

Heave is moving up and down. With four actuators SIMRIG SR1 will lift your entire rig. Feel the curbs and the imperfections in the track. Notice carefully crafted details in the asphalt never before experienced.

Pitch

Pitch is rotation forwards and backward. SIMRIG SR1 tilts your rig backward during acceleration and forwards while braking. Feel the braking force instead of relying solely on the position of your foot.

Roll

Roll is rotation left and right. While cornering SIMRIG SR1 tilts your rig sideways depending on direction. Fell the forces as your car is pushed around the corner.

Performance:

The SIMRIG SR1 achieves these numbers during max load with all four actuators mounted in a square.

  • Up to 6° Pitch/Roll
  • Up to 70mm Travel
  • Up to 100mm/s Speed

Tech Specs:

The SIMRIG SR1 is a powerful and accurate system that attaches to most aluminum profiles. It interfaces with your PC using USB. The included power supply operates around the world.

  • Max load – 175 kg (including driver and rig)
  • Travel – 70 mm
  • Speed – 100 mm/s (at max load)
  • Accuracy – 0.1 mm

SIMRIG Control Center

SIMRIG Control Center is responsible for managing the SIMRIG SR1 motion system. It extracts telemetry data from your favorite simulator and converts it into motion commands for the SIMRIG SR1.

The software allows you to tweak the settings for each vehicle until it is just right. You can adjust the amount of pitch during acceleration, the amount of roll while cornering, among many other things. These settings are automatically stored in a unique profile for each vehicle.

Once configured, simply start the SIMRIG Control Center, and enjoy the motion system. Profile selection is automatic.
