1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR Teaser
Back in June Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games shocked the sim racing world when they announced that they had secured a Porsche AG Licence for their Assetto Corsa Racing Simulator.
Previously, Kunos Simulazioni’s Licensing Project Manager Marco Massarutto already posted teaser screens showing us the Porsche 935/78 Moby Dick, 911 Carrera S and the Boxter 718. Today a Kunos Simulazioni teased the fourth model as part of the Porsche DLC. The included sneak-peek screenshot shows us what looks to be the nose of a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR.
In 1973, Porsche launched the Porsche 911, Carrera RS road model. The main reason for this release was getting the 911 Carrera RSR homologated for Group 4 racing. In 1973, the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 2.8-litre showed its potential by winning that year’s 24 Hours of Daytona.
Later that year, the 2.8-liter engine was swapped out with a 3.0-liter version to compete in the 1973 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1974, the 3.0-liter Porsche 911 Carrera RS dominated the Group 4 division in the capable hands of privateer racing teams such as Kremer Racing and Gelo Racing (Georg Loos).
Over the years, the fabled RSR legacy continued and eventually evolved in the Porsche 991 RSR we know today.
The Porsche branded Assetto Corsa content will become available as exclusive DLC content on both the PC and forthcoming console editions of Assetto Corsa. Porsche A.G and Kunos Simulazioni agreed to a collaboration and will create 2 high-quality DLC packs that will contain a mix of street legal and racing models of the prestigious German sportscar brand.
We eagerly anticipate some more announcements to learn which other models will be featured in the Porsche DLC for Assetto Corsa.
