Assetto Corsa 2 Scheduled For 2024 Release

Italian video game company Digital Bros, who are the owners of its subsidiary 505 Games, and with it, Kunos Simulazioni who are the developers of the Assetto Corsa franchise, shared its Fiscal Year 2020-2021 3rd Quarter Results.

Under normal circumstances, this May 2021 Presentation document would be of no interest at all for the regular gamer, this time the documents contain some rather interesting news. At first glance, the report seemed to mention a follow up for Assetto Corsa Competizioni. However, at closer examination, it became clear that the document actually refers to the original Assetto Corsa.

The original AC was released in 2014 on PC, and later on for Consoles. The follow-up Assetto Corsa Competizioni title was released in 2019, and was powered by Unreal Engine 4, diverting from the original Kunos Simulazioni in-house game engine, that is still hailed as one of the best racing simulator engines to date.

In between all the financial, sales, and product forecast reports, Digital Bros confirmed that a sequel to the original Assetto Corsa game is planned for a 2024 release. While Digital Bros previously already hinted they were planning a sequel, the recent report confirms that the Assetto Corsa 2 title is already in development. Furthermore, the document also mentions an Assetto Corsa game for mobile, which is due for release this summer.

At the time of writing, no further details are shared. The big question will be, who and how the new Assetto Corsa racing game will be developed. Considering the date, and the fact that ACC uses Unreal Engine 4, it is safe to assume that an AC sequel will most likely be developed using the new Unreal Engine 5. while this is fantastic news, it also makes me wonder how much of the original Assetto Corsa goodness will survive.
