Assetto Corsa Porsche license Announced
The last few weeks hashtags such as #save the date, #big news, and #JustSaying were popping up on the Kunos social media channels. We expected the news to be big, but would have never guessed the following.
Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games have proudly announced that they have secured a Porsche AG Licence for their Assetto Corsa Racing Simulator.
For the last 12 years, Porsche exclusively granted its gaming license to the American Electronic ARTS (EA) publisher who develops and publishes games under several labels. While many game publishers have tried to sub-license the Porsche brand, only Turn10 Studios of Forza Motorsport fame seemed able to acquire this highly desirable license.
Today, Kunos Simulazioni has revealed that the Porsche branded content will become available as exclusive DLC content on both the PC and forthcoming console editions of Assetto Corsa. Porsche A.G and Kunos Simulazioni agreed to a collaboration and will create 2 high-quality DLC packs that will contain a mix of street legal and racing models of the prestigious German sportscar brand. This is no small accomplishment for a relatively small developer.
“I can’t describe how proud we are about this partnership with Porsche, and how exciting it is to bring back the Brand in the simracing world,” Kunos Simulazioni’s Marco Massarutto said on Assetto Corsa’s forums. “This autumn, Assetto Corsa will be the only multi-platform title to have the Porsche brand in a genuine racing simulation.
“The gamers and our fans really want to have the chance to DRIVE the Porsche cars in a realistic manner. It’s a privilege and a big responsibility for us. We are working closely with Porsche with the aim to reproduce each single model with the maximum accuracy, and the fact that the same simulation will be used at Porsche race centers will push our team even more to provide the best Porsche virtual experience ever.”
Besides creating content for the popular Assetto Corsa racing simulator, Kunos Simulazioni also agreed to deliver customized software for virtual experiences worldwide at selected Porsche dealer and race centers.
This exciting and unexpected announcement also explains some of the rumors that popped up recently such as the talks between Kunos Simulazioni and Turn10 Studios, and it is probably the main reason why the Assetto Corsa Modding forums had to be closed down without notice. The modding history has already shown that Porsche is not keen on unofficial media that represents their brand.
At the time of writing, no further details about the Assetto Corsa Porsche license are available, but we will keep you posted on any further developments. The Porsche packs are scheduled for release for both PC and console in Fall 2016.
Already available on PC, Assetto Corsa will also be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation4 on August 26th in Europe and August 30th in North America.
Assetto Corsa is available at the official Assetto Corsa Steam page. |
