After two years of work, Reiza Studios revealed the first in-game screenshots of the historic Nürburgring (Nordschleife) track as it was back in 1971. Fans of the legendary Green Hell venue will not have to wait long, as the track will become available alongside the upcoming Automobilista 2 update.
The Nürburgring Nordschleife in 1971 was a challenging and iconic racing circuit located in the Eifel Mountains of Germany. It was a 22.835 km (14.189 mi) long track that was known for its long straights, tight corners, and elevation changes. The track was built in the 1920s and was the site of many famous races, including the German Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.
In 1971, the track was still largely unchanged from its original layout, with narrow sections and unforgiving barriers that left little room for error. The track was notorious for its difficulty, with many blind corners and elevation changes that made it a true test of driver skill and courage.
The lap record in 1971 was held by Jackie Stewart, who had set a time of 7:25.60 in a Formula One car the previous year. The lap record for production cars was held by German driver Dieter Glemser, who had set a time of 8:17.40 in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.8 AMG during the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring race.
Living Formula 1 legend, Sir Jackie Stewart was so impressed by the track that he gave it the name that it will probably never get rid of. The Green Hell.
Despite its challenges, the Nordschleife was a beloved track among drivers and fans alike, and its reputation as one of the most difficult and demanding circuits in the world was well-established. Today, the track remains a popular destination for racing enthusiasts, and many of the original features and challenges of the circuit remain largely unchanged.
