Dirt coming to iRacing – Not a joke Afterall (Rallycross Teaser)

On April 1, iRacing announced that dirt surface race tracks and dirt racing cars would be coming to the iRacing online motorsports simulation service.

Because of the obvious date, a majority of the sim racing community was convinced that this was merely an April fools joke. The iRacing Staff already confirmed in the official forums that the announcement was cleverly done to look like an April Fool joke, but was most certainly a legit announcement.

The initial teaser video lead us to believe that the Dirt part of iRacing would be limited to the very popular ”Dirt Late Model”. Today the iRacing staff goes one step further by teasing us with a laser scan image of a Chip Ganassi Racing Ford Fiesta Rallycross car, hinting that Rallycross will become a part of the iRacing service.

Furthermore, iRacing posted a small video teaser showing us the Rallycross test mule on a test track…  There working on it!

This is particularly good news for the iRacing non-oval members. While the ”Dirt Late Model” Series are definitely a great addition to iRacing’s lineup, we are convinced that European users will prefer the Rallycross content.

In their latest news update, iRacing also confirmed that they have licenced the Eldora Speedway dirt track. This legendary half-mile clay oval located near New Weston, Ohio is regarded the home of The Biggest Dirt Races In The World. In 1954, the track was constructed as a quarter-mile oval but was altered 4 years later to the present half-mile length. It hosts such races as “The Kings Royal”, “The Dirt Late Model Dream”, “Chevrolet American Revolution Weekend” , “Eldora at Eldora Speedway”, and “The World 100.”
