How to build a SimRig for less than 100€ – By HAWK SimRacing

For some of our community members, Sim Racing can rapidly become a relatively expensive hobby. While most of us started out racing with a simple wheel and pedals, the urge for better and nicer hardware often escalates. These days the market is flooded with all kinds of high-end racing gear ranging from direct-drive wheels, mechanical shifters, to full hydraulic pedal sets. The prices of various products can easily run in the thousands.

Usually, all this fancy hardware deserves a dedicated sim racing cockpit. While you will be able to find ready-made sim racing rigs in various price classes, there is always the option to build your own. Keep in mind that depending on your design and material choice, DIY rigs can sometimes en up more expensive than some out of the box solutions. That said, creative people on a budget will also have the chance to come up with a much cheaper solution.

HAWK SimRacing’s Stephan Ebert demonstrates that a few euros can get you a long way. With just some cheap MDF Medium-density fibreboards, wood screws and six caster wheels, he manages to build himself a very functional sim racing rig for less than 100€. Check out the time-lapse video of his build. It might inspire you to start building your own personal custom racing rig.
