F1 2020 – Safety Car Guide
Codemasters continue their series of F1 2020 tutorial videos sharing knowledge and tips that could change the outcome of your next virtual race. In this episode, Codemasters explains what to do, when the Mercedes-AMG safely car comes out to lead the field of F1 cars around the track.
When a safety car is deployed during a racing event, all the cars are prohibited from overtaking and have to limit their speed. (an exception can be applied for lapped drivers) You might think that this procedure will stop the race. However, it’s now time for the team to tackle the challenging task of getting the most out of the SC phase.
Not an easy task when you consider the huge number of parameters that have to be crunched. After analyzing the track position, pit strategy, tyre wear, fuel usage, engine temperatures, brake temperatures, remaining laps, and more, it will require some quick decision-making, to potentially comer up with a beneficial strategy, to better your chances when the Safety Car goes in, and the racing resumes.
