Fanatec Goes Real Racing
Fans of the Nürburgring Nordschleife will undoubtedly be familiar with www.bridgetogantry.com wich is the biggest unofficial Nürburgring fansite in the world. Dale Lomas who is the author of the website is somewhat considered a world class Nordschleife expert. In his daily life, Dale is a driving coach, pilots the Ring Taxi, and takes part in racing events on a regular basis. Last but not least, Dale is also an avid sim racer.
During the 2016 Sim Racing Expo, Dale Lomas met up with another famous name in the sim racing scene. Thomas Jackermeier. CEO of Endor AG, and manufacturer of the Fanatec sim racing hardware brand.
After some interesting discussions about both real and virtual racing, Thomas and Dale set out to make a sim Racer dream come true. Fanatec will set out to prepare a racing team and car ready for the 2018 Nürburgring 24 Hours race. With the help of Dale Lomas, the team will apply for a National A racing license, build up a racing car and learn how to race the Ring in a safe but competitive way.
The Fanatec Racing Team will consist out of four drivers. At least two of them will be Endor AG employees. The interesting news is that Thomas Jackermeier is planning to recruit the remaining drivers from the sim racing community. Should the 2018 project become a success, then Fanatec plans to repeat the project on a yearly basis.
As a first step, Thomas Jackermeier and Fanatec’s development manager Bernhard Conrad took part in a full track day session with Dale Lomas driving a standard BMW 228i fitted with a roll cage and sports tyres. During the Winter months, Thomas and Bernhard will apply for a National Racing license A and start to build up a racing car.
We will keep you posted when more news of this exciting project becomes available.
