Sega Announces Super GT based Arcade Racer
SEGA has a nice track record when it comes to producing fun and exciting arcade racing games. Many somewhat older sim racing community members will surely have enjoyed the SEGA arcade racers of the past such as Virtua Racing, Daytona USA, Manx TT, Grid and SEGA Rally.
Hot on the heels of the recently released Daytona Championship USA, SEGA Japan announced a new Arcade racing title in the making named Sega World Drivers Championship. This new arcade racer is developed in partnership with the Japanese Super GT Championship and will be featuring both the GT300 and GT500 categories of Japan’s premier GT Series. The title is scheduled to appear in the Arcade’s around the world in 2018.
At the time of writing, not allot of details about the title are known. However, Sega is hosting a preview of the SWDC game at SEGA’s entertainment buildings in Akihabara and Ikebukurotwo in Tokyo on the 28th, 29th, and 30th July. At the preview session, the GT300 class Toyota 86, Toyota Prius, and the 2017 Subaru BRZ3 and the GT500 class Lexus, Nissan, and Honda will be used as demo cars. We hope to show you more in-game screenshots or video footage by the end of the month.
Accompanying the press release, SEGA also published a small promo video trailer (posted below). Unfortunately, the trailer does not contain any actual in-game footage but merely features clips of the real world SuperGT Championship.
