Gran Turismo Sophy Drifting Demonstration

Fans of the Gran Turismo franchise will probably know that over the last two years, the people at Sony AI, Polyphony Digital Inc., and Sony Interactive Entertainment have been developing Gran Turismo Sophy.

Gran Turismo Sophy is an autonomous artificial intelligence system that aims to revolutionize AI gaming and the resulting gaming experience. GT Sophy was trained to master the following driving skills needed to compete with the world’s best championship-level drivers.

During last year’s World Series, GT Sophy competed and recorded victories against the best GT drivers in the world in exhibition races and it has continued to develop from that point onwards through state-of-the-art deep reinforcement learning technology and large-scale training via cloud gaming infrastructure.

At the recent Gran Turismo World Series 2023 Showdown held in Amsterdam back in August, Sony AI showcased the latest advancements in its GT Sophy development, demonstrating how GT Sophy has learned to drift around a track using a precise sequence of driving inputs.

While currently still in development, GT Sophy will become a permanent part of Gran Turismo games in the near future.
