When Ian Bell Tweets, something is cooking… Mr. Bell came a long way since the early days of sim racing, when in 2001 he co-founded the SimBin modding team which produced a number of successful free add-ons for various racing games, culminating in the highly popular GTR2002 mod. The SimBin modding group, later on, became the foundation for the famed SimBin Studios who were responsible for the original GTR, and the GTR 2 FIA GT Racing Game.
In 2009 Ian Bell became CEO, and founder of Slightly Mad Studios, the company behind era-defining games such as the GTR series, Need For Speed Shift, Shift 2 Unleashed Red Bull Air Race, the popular Project CARS franchise, and many other top-tier games.
In a recent Tweet, Ian Bell announced that he decided to create a follow-up to the massive popular GTR2 game by SimBin. Even better so, Bell stated that he has teamed up with a number of people from the original GTR2 team. For now, the project is referred to as GTR Revival.
A new company named Mildly Annoyed Games ( ed: Not sure if this is real or sarcasm) will take care of the development tasks.
Exciting news indeed. I know Mr. Bell’s Tweets don’t always have the expected outcome, but if they do it’s usually more than worth the attention. As a massive GTR2 fan back in the day, I really hope this one becomes a reality. Best news of the year.
I will keep you posted when more details become available.
This will be made with zero Publisher input. My new company (on the way) Mildly Annoyed Games will take care of all of the development. It’s going to be fucking epic.
