Heusinkveld’s Remco Hitman – Virtual Track 4 – GPL Kyalami F1 1967

Heusinkveld Engineering’s Remco Hitman continues his “Virtual Track” talk & drive video series in which he covers various topics such as driving techniques, cars, simulators, Sim Racing gear, racing history and more. In episode 4 of the Virtual Track video series, Remco takes us back in time.

In 1998, the Sierra On-Line software company released it’s Grand Prix Legends racing simulator developed by the Papyrus Design Group which was co-founded by today’s iRacing CEO David Kaemmer. GPL as it was called in short, rapidly became the go-to title for the more serious simulation enthusiast. Looking back now, it becomes clear that Grand Prix Legends can be considered the mother of all racing simulations.

Remco fires up GPL and drives the 1967 Cooper T86 Maserati wingless Formula 1 car at the Kyalami circuit in South Africa. As usual, he provides us with some background information and some historical facts about the car and track. It’s quite interesting to see the old software package in action on a modern day racing simulator.
