Hockenheimring Coming to iRacing

The iRacing online racing service is already renowned for its high-quality laser-scanned tracklist. And there will be more added in the near future. Iracing confirmed that the Weedsport Raceway, Crandon International Raceway, the streets of Long Beach, Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, and the Coca-Cola Superspeedway are already in full production.

And now they announced one more.

Via the official forum, iRacing’s Marketing, and Communications Manager Christopher Leone confirmed that the German Hockenheimring will be added to the iRacing tracklist.

iRacing is pleased to announce a new deal that will bring the Hockenheimring to the simulator in the coming months. Originally built in 1932 and redesigned for 2002, Hockenheim has played host to dozens of German Grands Prix over the years. Due to the circumstances of the global COVID-19 pandemic and our inability to do many data collection trips for previously planned projects, iRacing has acquired high-quality third-party scan data and photos in order to build this track. This allows us to get working on Hockenheim in the very near future.

The Hockenheimring joins a number of circuits that are currently in full production at iRacing, including Weedsport Raceway, Crandon International Raceway, the streets of Long Beach, Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, and Coca-Cola Superspeedway. Along with these tracks, iRacing is also working on the design of new rallycross courses.

The Hockenheimring is an FIA Grade 1 licensed racing circuit situated near the town of Hockenheim in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The original 12 km long track was built in 1932 and underwent some major changes over the years. In 2002, the circuit was redesigned by the famous track designer Hermann Tilke resulting in the 4.574 km layout we know today.

The track hosted the German Grand Prix for the first time in 1970 when the F1 drivers refused to race on the Nurburgring Nordschleife on safety grounds. From 2007 onwards, the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring alternated each season as the venue for the German Grand Prix.
