How hard do you have to press race car brakes?
Time for a Niels Heusinkveld Talk & no Drive . Niels continues his technical seminar teaching us how a brake system works, and how the forces are calculated and applied to the brake disks. In this episode the basic principle of a brake systems is explained in detail and while that might sound complex to some, Niels also talks about the forces needed to slow down a car, and more importantly how to calculate the braking forces needed to make the brake system work. After this enlightenment, Niels shifts a gear higher and explains what a brake systems is actually trying to stop. Inertia, G-Forces and the mass of a car are all coming in to play. From regular brake systems to race car brakes the calculations might even become more complex. but no worries.. In Niels his own words ” Simple math and physics” will get you started. This just reminded me that the word simple is pretty relative.
Heusinkveld Engineering is a Dutch company that offers a broad array of products and services to the real and virtual racing scene. From advanced vehicle simulation software to simulator hardware. Sim Racers might also know Niels as the main physics creator at Reiza Studios.
