Full 2024 Season 4 Release details:

iRACING:

General

  • The Electron version and dependencies have been updated to the latest stable release versions.

Hosted Racing

  • Up to 14 car models may now be selected when creating a Hosted Session.

AI Racing

  • [pending final testing] A new “Go Racing” drop-up menu option has been added to Official Sessions: “Create a Single AI Session”. This button copies all parameters from the scheduled Official Session and puts you straight into a private AI Session using those parameters. This is a really quick way to see what the event you’re browsing might be like, and test out the car and track in traffic.
  • Up to 14 car models may now be selected when creating AI Sessions.
  • Fixed an issue where the AI Rosters  “Add Pattern” button resulted in an error.
  • Improved the error message for inputting an invalid AI Season name.

iRacing Weather System

  • A new Weather Type is now available for selection in Timeline Weather Mode: Spotty Rain.
  • – – Spotty Rain simulates heavy to light scattered rain showers in the region throughout the allotted time. Just like real scattered rain showers, this mode results in a well-mixed bag of patches of clouds and sun in varying degrees, accompanied by periodic stints of rain in various levels of heaviness. When Spotty Rain is in use, pay close attention to your weather radar to see what’s on the horizon for your race!
  • – – Spotty Rain is only available in Timeline Weather Mode.

Paint Shop

  • Four new sponsors have been added to the Paint Shop, including:
  • – – Bell Helmets
  • – – Eibach
  • – – OMP Racing
  • – – Simshop

SIMULATION:

Official Racing

  • iRacing has developed a new Distributed Splits Algorithm for Multi-Class Official Series that takes vehicle manufacturers and iRating into account for an optimal experience. The new Distributed Splits Algorithm will be rolled out selectively, and there will be an indicator for Series and Events that use it.

Divisions

  • Divisions will no longer be calculated at the Start of Week 1, but instead during Week 13.
  • – – With the recent split of the Road License and our drastically increased membership over time, this database process now takes exponentially longer than it did when originally designed. This slow process led to extended Official Series downtime for the Season cut-over last Season. This change will distribute and process this workload while service remains up throughout Week 13 instead of leaving it all for the last minute. The Divisions that result from this altered process will be negligibly different.

Physics

  • Cars using Standing Starts now automatically complete a simulated Parade Lap around the track. This process warms and conditions the tires and heats the brakes, improving the starting experience.
  • Natural clutch variance has been added as a feature to iRacing.
  • – –  All vehicle clutches now have an identical small amount of natural bite variance. The amount is determined randomly at the start of each Session, and all vehicles in the Session have the exact same amount. This variance simulates reality, as not all clutches operate identically time after time, and this change will ensure each Session provides all drivers with a minuscule natural variation to keep the playing field even.
  • Clutch launch assist will no longer operate if the car does not have a clutch pedal.
  • Fixed a systemic mis-processing of engine friction torque values.

iRacing Weather System

  • Fixed the way rain calculations interact with barometric pressure to correct an oversight that sometimes made it impossible for rain to occur in the Simulation, even if it was selected.
  • Fixed an issue where areas of the track surface could appear to have square blocks of wet/dry areas, especially in transition areas between wet and dry spaces.
  • Fixed an issue where the start and stop times for rainfall would always appear at whole-minute intervals. Mother Nature need not be so exacting.
  • Fixed an issue forcing the minimum cloud cover at the start and end of any Timeline block of Rain to be at least 75%.
  • Fixed an issue where a vehicle windshield could suddenly be masked or unmasked with fog or rain effects at night.
  • Fixed an issue where tire spray from your car could appear on your windshield.
  • Fixed an issue with time calculation to correctly account for start time offsets that already include accelerated time plus elapsed Session time. This improves the accuracy of weather for Sessions using Simulated Sun Acceleration.
  • Fixed an issue with the keyframe data used by the Simulation when Simulated Sun Acceleration was in effect, and the Session Start Time was not on a whole hour interval.
  • Fixed an issue in replays where parts of the track could appear dry when viewing the start of a Session, even though the track is wet.

Race Control

  • Fixed an issue where gain-time penalties could recalculate themselves every 5 seconds in ever-increasing values, resulting in unclearable gain-time penalties.

Road Racing

  • Tire cooling parameters have been slightly updated for stockcars driving on road courses.

Dirt Racing

  • Water content parameters for racing dirt surfaces have been updated slightly.

AI Racing

  • AI Drivers have successfully completed competency courses, and AI Racing is now available for the following new vehicles:
  • – – BMW M4 G82 GT4
  • – – McLaren 720S GT3 EVO
  • – – Mini Stock
  • AI Drivers have graduated with racing certificates, and AI Racing is now available for the following new tracks and new configurations:
  • – – Cadwell Park Circuit (Full, Club, Moto, & Woodlands)
  • – – Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps (Grand Prix Pits, Classic Pits, Endurance, & Bike)
  • AI Drivers have earned their Wet Tires Merit Badge on all of the new and updated non-Dirt content, and are ready to race in the rain!
  • AI Vehicles have improved their tire temperature modeling, making them more accurate and comparable to a player-driven car. This improves AI Drivers’ accuracy and performance, especially at extreme temperatures. This improvement has been made on the following vehicles for this Season Release:
  • – – GT3 Class Cars
  • – – NASCAR Xfinity Series Class Cars
  • – – TCR Class Cars
  • – – FIA F4
  • – – Ford Mustang FR500S
  • – – Formula Vee
  • – – Renault Clio R.S. V
  • AI Drivers have received extra training in very wet conditions at many road course main configs, as well as dry training at Nürburgring (Combined & Nordschleife).
  • AI Drivers have completed their Summer Reading assignments to prepare for the ‘24-’25 school year. Their materials included:
  • – – Pitch n’ Roll Don’t Mean Outta Control! – Basic Lessons from Wild Racing Pros
  • – – The Appropriate Standing Start Procedures for Everyday Living
  • – – 101 Tips & Tricks for Improving Your Off-Track Recovery
  • Despite what they may claim, AI Drivers are far from perfect. Here are a few updates and fixes we have provided them with for this release:
  • – – AI Drivers now start events with a little extra fuel if “Do Not Count Caution Laps” is enabled. They have learned this the hard way too many times.
  • – – Fixed an issue when some AI Drivers occasionally spaced out at Superspeedways and forgot to leave the pit or grid stall.
  • – – Fixed an issue where including AI Drivers in a Session could slightly alter the dynamic track data or weather conditions once loaded. We think the AI Drivers were trying to cheat by altering the code — we’ve put a stop to it!
  • – – Fixed an issue where AI Drivers always appeared to be using an incorrect vehicle setup for the Ray FF 1600.

Graphics

  • The iRacing Graphics Team has completed a variety of updates for the 2024 Season 4 Release, including:
  • – – The reflectivity parameters for rubber marbles have been adjusted to improve their visibility on highly reflective surfaces.
  • – – Windshield glass and dirt surface texture shaders have been updated.
  • – – A variety of dirt textures and decals that appear on car bodies have been updated.
  • – – SpeedTree lighting shaders have been updated to improve day/night and night/day transitions.
  • – – For the PopcornFX system, adjusted the dynamic memory buffer allocations for improved performance.
  • – – A HDR-tonemapper has been added that improves the appearance of very bright areas that would previously burn-out on non-HDR monitors.
  • – – The “AAQuality” setting has been removed from the “rendererDX11.ini” file.
  • The iRacing Graphics Team has fixed a variety of issues for the 2024 Season 4 Release, including:
  • – – Fixed an issue where the graphics rendering froze, but audio and controls were still responsive during Rain sessions.
  • – – Fixed an issue where the incorrect skid types from your car could appear on surfaces, such as grass skids appearing on asphalt.
  • – – Fixed an issue where important people could go missing from your life based on a dynamic Level-of-Detail (LOD) settings bug. This fixes an issue where Lollipopman could sometimes be completely invisible, even when you were right in front of him – he’ll never leave you hanging in the pits again!
  • – – Fixed an issue with Whelen caution lights. The lights always appeared to have a yellow hue at a distance, regardless of what color light was active, and the light color was only evident after getting closer.
  • – – Fixed an issue where custom car paints could appear in a different hue depending on if a metallic car pattern was selected or not. Some metallic custom car paint schemes might require a tweak after this change.
  • – – Fixed an issue where particle effects generated by other drivers could be seen in your Lone Practice and Qualifying Session.
  • – – For PopcornFX, fixed an issue where the dynamic vertex buffers were wrapping prematurely, resetting their rendering process.
  • – – Fixed an issue with artifacts appearing whenever low-resolution puff effects were using soft-particles.
  • – – Fixed an issue where SpeedTree tree instances received no lighting information from stadium lights.

Audio

  • The process for deprecating DirectSound from iRacing begins with this Season Release.
  • – – Users may need to reselect their sound device to restore audio after this update.
  • – – Sound devices are only listed once in the device selector. If DirectSound is required for hardware compatibility, it can still be enabled in the “app.ini” file.
  • – – The DirectSound mixing balance for stereo audio into surround speakers has been fixed and removed from the “app.ini” file.
  • Low-speed curb strikes and scrape sounds have been improved.
  • Support for a new audio codec, OPUS, has been added, and all environment sounds in the Simulator have been converted into this new format.
  • – – The OPUS audio format requires less storage space while maintaining a high degree of quality. This reduces the overall file size of iRacing while maintaining the experience you expect.
  • The value “sampleRate” has been removed from the “app.ini” file as it is no longer used. The sample rate is set by the audio device in Windows settings.
  • Protections have been added to reduce simulator crashes when multimedia devices misbehave.

Controls

  • Support has been added for vibrating Conspit pedals.
  • If a Simagic wheel is detected, and it does not natively support a 360 Hz mode, it will now automatically fall back to DirectInput.
  • Fixed an issue where Thrustmaster devices could cause the Simulator to crash during shutdown.

Auto-Fuel

  • Fixed an issue where Auto-Fuel modified the fuel fill amount on pit exit even if “autoFuelDefaultEnable” was false.

Replay

  • During replays of events that include a Lone Qualifying Session, all participants are now visible and available for watching.

Sporting Code

  • The Official iRacing Sporting Code has been updated. Changes for the 2024 Season 4 Release include:
  • – – 5.4. Divisions – Changed the description of exactly when Divisions are calculated.
  • – – 6.8. Starting – The description of the jump-start penalty has been corrected.
