iRacing – 87 Monte Carlo & Thunderbird Stockcars Preview Video
About a month ago, iRacing.com announced that with the help of Dale Earnhardt Jr. they would bring a laser-scanned version of the Historic North Wilkesboro Speedway to the iRacing service. This was great news for the NASCAR fans out there, and soon many began to dream of having some classic stockcars to go with the historic track release.
iRacing responded by announcing that both the iconic 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and Ford Thunderbird Stock Cars will be joining the iRacing car portfolio.
With the help of Richard Childress Racing (RCR), the iRacing dev team was able to laser-scan the ’87 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in which NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, won the ’86 and ’87 championship. In 1987, Dale Earnhardt earned his nickname “The Intimidator” after a thrilling race with Bill Elliott in the Winston NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, which brings us to the following car. The ’87 Ford Thunderbird was scanned with the help of NACAR driver Chase Elliott, who made it possible to access the car that was raced by his father Bill Elliott.
Today, iRacing published the first official video showcasing both Winston Cup cars in action on the virtual North Wilkesboro Speedway.
The 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and Ford Thunderbird will become available in early June when the new iRacing build is deployed. iRacing’s Executive Vice President Steve Myers also confirmed that in the next iRacing season, an official series named NASCAR Legends will be initiated running both cars.
