It was no secret that the iRacing development team are working on a virtual version of Circuit of the Americas Austin. Today a spy shot appeared showing us a preview of the track build in progress. In the shot we see the COTA observation tower. Its 22 stories high and makes it the tallest structure in Elroy, Texas. The tower gives up to 100 people a superb view of the Formula One track. Circuit of the Americas Austin also known as COTA is a 5.5km racing circuit in Austin, Texas USA. . It hosts the Formula One Grand Prix of the United States since 2012.
The video shows us a “behind the scenes” with the iRacing engineers and shows us how the Circuit of the Americas is laser scanned and then built into the iRacing service. Circuit of the Americas will be the next road track released into the iRacing service, and is scheduled to be ready by Spring 2014.
While this screen is only a snapshot of the work in progress, we can already see that the track and texture work is progressing nicely. Another interesting part of this picture is what looks as tire dirt and wear visuals on the Williams-Toyota FW31. When looking close at the first one you will notice its labeled ” Flat Spot” . The other two seem to feature new grass and dirt textures. Interesting indeed.
