iRacing – Ford GT-LM GTE and Ferrari 488 GTE Coming June 6

iRacing’s Executive Vice President and Executive Producer Steve Myers officially confirmed that both the Ford GT-LM GTE and the Ferrari 488 GTE will be available on the iRacing Online racing platform on June 6. He also included the first screenshots of the new iRacing GTE 3D models.

iRacing was hoping to get one or both cars released before this year’s Le Mans 24 in order to include the cars in the official iRacing IMSA series. Now that this is the case, all current GT3 cars except the Porsche will be removed from the IMSA series. For the upcoming iRacing Le Mans 24 race, the old Ford GT will be removed from the car list, leaving the HPD, the two GT1 cars and the new Ford GT-LM GTE and Ferrari 488 GTE as contenders.

Ford GT LM GTE

The 2016 Le Mans GT-LM class winner is the flagship of the new Ford Performance group and is Ford’s showcase for aerodynamics, lightweight carbon fiber construction, and Ford EcoBoost power. The 2016/2017 Ford GT LM is campaigned by Ford Chip Ganassi Racing in both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship.

On June 19, 2016, the number 68 Ford GT of Ford Chip Ganassi Racing finished 1st at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE-Pro class; the victory marked 50 years after Ford won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966, where they came in 1st, 2nd and 3rd with the now iconic GT40.

Ferrari 488 GTE

The 2016 Ferarri 488 GTE is the successor of the Ferrari 458 GTE wich is probably the Italian Prancing Horse brand’s most successful race car to date. The Ferrari 488 GTE is powered by a race-prepped F 154CB 3.9-liter Twin GDI-turbocharged V8 engine. The engine puts out 490 horses which are transferred to the rear wheels by a Transversal 6 speed sequential gearbox.
