iRacing Formula Renault 2.0 in-game preview
One more week to go before iRacing will deploy its new build. With the update also a selection of new cars will join the Online Racing Service. iRacing already teased us with some footage of the upcoming Mercedes AMG GT3 and the Audi R8 LMS Ultra but have kept the upcoming open wheeler pretty much hidden from sight.
Today Executive Vice President at iRacing Steve Myers, finally posted an in-game screenshot showing us the Formula Renault 2.0 on the track.
Besides the entry-level Formula Renault 2.0, iRacing also licenced the Formula Renault 3.5. However, since Renault has now cancelled its support for the 2016 season of the 3.5 series, it is not yet clear if this will have any impact on the iRacing release. The real world Formula Renault 3.5 will continue its existence as the Formula 3.5 V8 Championship.
The single seat Formula Renault 2.0 class is aimed at young drivers who are just discovering the workings of a real race car and acts as a stepping stone to the more advanced racing series such as Formula 3, World Series by Renault 3.5, GP2 and ultimately Formula One. On the iRacing platform, the Formula Renault’s will be used for the exact same purpose, creating a class ladder for sim racers to climb.
As you might have guessed from the name, the car is powered by a 2.0-liter engine that delivers 205bhp. This small 16-valve four-cylinder F4R832 unit originated from the Clio Renault Sport MkII and is fitted with a seven-speed sequential gearbox.
