Since day one, back in 2008, iRacing has always been hard at work to generate a steady flow of new content and features for their premium online racing platform. It is safe to say that after all these years, the community’s most loved and most hated racing simulator is still going strong.
Via their social media channels, a number of iRacing executives have announced some of the new content and features that will be coming to the service, in the coming months.
I had already posted some news about the official announcement of the Mt. Washington Hillclimb course, but there is more in the works at the iRacing headquarters.
Hickory Motor Speedway
Nascar Legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. confirmed that the iRacing will ad a new classic stock car racing venue to the track portfolio. The 0.363 mi (0.584 km) Hickory Motor Speedway will be available in September.
The “World’s Most Famous Short Track” opened as a half-mile dirt oval in 1951, going through three reconfigurations before settling into its current form in 1970. A NASCAR Cup Series venue until 1971, it was a key part of the early history of the Xfinity Series, hosting six races in 1982 and remaining on the schedule through 1998. It remains a popular venue for late model touring series and weekly racing events.
Hungaroring
iRacing also announced that a new European road course is in the works. The Hungaroring, which is the home of the Hungarian Formula One Grand Prix will be added to the iRacing track roster somewhere during the coming months.
The FIA Grade 1 circuit situated in Mogyoród, Hungary has been part of the calendar of numerous major racing championships since 1986. The 4.381 km / 2.722-mile Grand Prix layout features 14 turns.
Rain is coming…
It was not a secret that the development team was already working on a rain feature for iRacing. However, up until now, iRacing never shared details or a release timeframe. That has now changed.
During a recent interview, Executive Producer Greg Hill confirmed that everyone at iRacing is working hard to try and get the rain weather feature ready. If all goes as planned, we might see in-game rain by the end of the year. Furthermore, via their Twitter account, iRacing posted the first Work-in-Progress in-game screenshot showcasing a wet Hockenheimring track.
