iRacing – Official Corvette C8.R Introduction Video
Yesterday, iRacing and Corvette Racing confirmed that the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R will be coming to the iRacing online racing service next week when the 2020 Season 4 build is released.
Today, iRacing published the official introduction video, letting us enjoy some impressive visuals and the awesome sounds of the virtual American V8 endurance machine.
While many iRacing members were convinced that with this new release, the iRacing series car count would go up to 8, the development team showed concern that this would have a negative effect on the user experience on lesser-powered PC systems. Therefore, the iRacing staff decided that the Corvette C8.R will replace the Ford GTE in the iRacing IMSA series, while in the Le Mans Series the Vette will replace the BMW.
Furthermore, the new Dallara P217 LMP2 will replace the Corvette C7 Daytona Prototype in the MSA series and will replace the Honda HPD ARX-01c in the Le Mans Series.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8.R is an IMSA GTLM class endurance racer build by Pratt & Miller and Chevrolet. The C8.R replaced the successful C7.R making its track debut during the Rolex 24 at Daytona which was the opening round of the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The C8.R is powered by a mid-mounted, flat-plane crank 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that is restricted to 500 horsepower to comply with the IMSA GTLM class rulebook. All that power is transferred to the rear wheels via an Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox.
This July, Corvette Racing earned the first victory with the new C8.R at the 2020 IMSA WeatherTech 240 at Daytona with Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor at the wheel.
Later this month, the Corvette C8.R was supposed to make its European debut at the (postponed) 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, Corvette Racing has withdrawn from the world-famous endurance race due to the global coronavirus pandemic situation.
