iRacing – Porsche 911 GT3 Cup And Season 1 Patch 2 Released

As they had promised, iRacing has released the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for their online racing simulator.

The iRacing staff has referred to the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (model 991 II) as the first one coming, which indicated that more models of the prestigious German sportscars brand might become available in the near future. While iRacing did not yet confirm which models are part of the multi-car license, they did tease the Le Mans-winning Porsche 919 Hybrid in their Porsche announcement video back in the beginning of January. Fingers crossed.

Together with this new content release, iRacing also updated the core sim with 2017 Season 1 Patch 2. This small update mainly contains a selection of fixes and an update for the Anti-cheat system.

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (model 991 II)

The Porsche 911 GT3 is the most-produced and most-sold GT racing car in the world. The new 911 GT3 Cup which replaces the model that debuted in 2013 is campaigned in the 2017 race season, initially exclusively in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup held alongside the Formula 1 races, and in the German and North American Porsche Carrera Cup. As of 2018, the car will also be available for other customer team race series around the world.

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (model 991 II) is powered by a 4-litre, six-cylinder flat engine with direct fuel injection that delivers 357 kW (485 hp). A race ready Porshe 911 GT3 Cup can be purchased for roughly 189,900 euros excluding country-specific VAT.

Porsche back in the gaming/Sim scene

When last year the exclusive Electronic Arts Porsche agreement came to an end, Kunos Simulazioni was the first developer to partner up with Porsche and announced its now mega-popular Assetto Corsa Porsche pack DLC’s. Soon after, in an interview with Sebastian Hornung who is the Manager Branded Entertainment at Porsche AG, it became clear that the Kunos Simulazioni deal was not an exclusive one.

Sebastian officially stated that from now on, Porsche would provide other racing Game/Simulation developers the opportunity to license their car models. Soon after, both Turn10 Studios (Forza Horizon 3) and Slightly Mad Studios ( Project CARS)  teased official future Porsche content for their respective titles.

Back in October iRacing already announced a partnership with the Italian sports car manufacturer Ferrari. Back then many community members already speculated that this might also lead to a Porsche Licence.
