Kevin Shepherd – The iRacing Vs rFactor 2 Debate
Kevin Shepherd is a Brittish comedian, writer, director, videographer and a huge fan of motorsport. Not so long ago, Kevin entered the world of online racing. In his “Old Dog, New Tricks” video series, Kevin documents his quest for a racing simulator that would suit his needs. Things did not go as planned as it soon became apparent that the otherwise brilliant iRacing platform was not the correct weapon of choice for Kevin.
While I personally am a huge and satisfied iRacing addict for more than 9 years already, and I certainly do not agree with Kevin’s view on the product, this video is actually very interesting. In a very honest way, Kevin outlines the problems and frustrations of many first-time iRacing members and points out where some of the so common community anti-iRacing feelings are generated. Luckily there is more than one racing simulator out there, so Kevin Shepherd checked out rFactor 2 which was better suitable for his needs. He became an instant fan.
The moral of the story is actually pretty simple. There is no such thing as the best racing simulator. It will all depend on what you are after, and to a certain extend the range of your budget. If you pick the wrong product for your personal needs, it will only end in frustration, and might also lead to some online verbal aggression. Most of the time for all the wrong reasons.
Luckily enough, I personally like most racing simulators out there. iRacing, rFacor2, Assetto Corsa, RaceRoom, Automobilista, LFS, Project CARS and more. All brilliant pieces of software built by passionate and talented people. They all have their strengths and flaws. These are the times of sim racing plenty, so make the most of it. Just make sure you pick the right one for you.
Wix out. Its time for some iRacing.
