Kokomo Speedway Coming to the iRacing Service
iRacing officially announced that the Kokomo Speedway dirt track will be coming to the iRacing Online Racing Service.
The World of Outlaws and iRacing.com hosted an online voting session to determine the next dirt track to be added to the iRacing online racing simulator. The fans could pick one of six contenders being Kokomo Speedway, Fairbury American Legion Speedway, Lernerville Speedway, Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, Weedsport Speedway and Cedar Lake Speedway.
The voting session resulted in a win for the Kokomo Speedway followed by Fairbury American Legion Speedway which came 118 votes short.
iRacing confirmed that they have already laser scanned the track and the development team has started work on the virtual version of the track. Kokomo Speedway for iRacing is scheduled to be released somewhere in 2018.
Interestingly, iRacing also hinted that all six named dirt tracks will eventually become available for the service.
We are very appreciative of our fans voting us to be the next dirt track added to iRacing, said Kokomo Speedway president. Being available to race in iRacing will give existing fans a new way to experience our track as well as introduce legions of new fans to Kokomo. Personally I can’t wait to race Kokomo online!
It was fun to get dirt track fans involved in the decision process – it’s the first time we have done anything like this and based on everything we heard it was very well received, said Steve Myers, executive vice-president and executive producer, iRacing.com. Ultimately we will build all six tracks but it is great to have the input from the community as to what they want next.
