Logitech officially announced G29 & G920 Steering Wheels
After a month of rumours, leaked photos and a product listing on the German Amazon website, Logitech has now officially informed the world of the existence of the upcoming new G29 & G920 wheels. The wheels will be the successor to its successful line of peripherals such as the G25 and G27.
The G29 racing wheel will be marketed for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 while the G920 is a Force Feedback wheel for the Xbox One console. Most sim racers out there will be pleased to hear that both wheels are fully compatible with the PC platform.
Both wheels will retail for €399. The G29 wheels will become available in July while the G920 will be released in October. Could it be a coincidence that Forza 6 is rumored to be released in September?
The Logitech G29 racing wheel will feature a dual-motor force feedback system and a stainless steel pedal set including throttle, brake and clutch. As its predecessors, the G29 is fitted with a set of paddle gear shifters. Logitech decided not to include a sequential shifter as they did with the G25 and G27. The hand-stitched leather wheel rim and clamp system are the same as used on the older Logitech products.
Aimed primarily at the console market, both wheels feature the usual game-pad and brand specific buttons, including a D-pad. The G 29 wheel is fitted with a set of PlayStation buttons and also has a 24-step rotary dial fitted. Logitech has referred to the rotary dial as a “preferences” knob. The G29 also features a rev-counter LED bar as seen on the older G27.
The Xbox One G920 wheel includes the same features as the G29, with the exception of the rotary dial and rev counter LED strip. The wheel is fitted with the standard A-B-X-Y X and box home buttons. Both wheels make use of the same internals featuring an anti-backlash helical gearing force feedback system and include the same pedal set.
As stated, the G29 and G920 will be shipped without a manual gear shifter. However, Logitech is marketing an optional six-speed “Driving Force Shifter”. The shifter unit is rumored to have a €59,99 price point. It is not yet clear if the Driving Force Shifter will be available at the launch date of the wheels.
