Marc Hennerici Introduces the Sim Racing Expo 2017
German racing driver and event organizer, Marc Hennerici introduces the 2017 edition of the Sim Racing Expo which will take place on the 16th and 17th of September.
The 2017 Sim Racing Expo will be the fourth edition of the biggest sim racing orientated tradeshow in the world held at the 8.800 sqm ring boulevard running parallel to the start and finish straight of the German Nürburgring Grand-Prix circuit. When you visit the event, you will be able to try out various Sim Racing products and maybe do some Sim Racing against professional racing drivers. At the same weekend, the track also hosts a race of the Blancpain GT Sprint Series. So it will be a feast for both real and virtual motorsport fans.
Because the video interview is recorded in the German language, I will try to translate the main topics. Keep in mind that German is not my native language ;-).
Expo organizer Marc Hennerici tells us how three years ago, the first Sim Racing Expo came to be. He explains that he noticed that competitive Sim racing somewhat lagged behind the general eSports success. In order to help promote sim racing to the masses and turn it into a sport, they came up with the idea for a sim racing expo. It is now three years later, and it is clear that the Sim Racing Expo remains unsurpassed in terms of quality and size. Last year, 14,800 fans of virtual and real motorsport visited the event.
Marc says that during the past editions of the event, they have improved the concept by means of trial and error and that the sim racing expo format is very well received by the public and the sim racing community. Marc was pleased to see that many of the top international sim racing teams visited the event.
The 2017 edition of the Sim Racing Expo will feature not one, but two sim racing competitions. Besides the regular ADAC Sim Racing Trophy competition on Saturday, they also added a team based competition on Sunday. While Marc could not share all the details at this time, he confirmed that the world’s best sim racing teams were invited to take part in the competition. As in previous years, everyone will be able to take part in the ADAC Sim Racing Trophy by means of an online qualify session. So with some luck and talent, you will be able to compete in the main race on Saturday.
As many, Marc acknowledges that the gap between real and virtual motorsport is shrinking by the day. Not only is the current generation of racing drivers aware of the benefits of simulator training sessions, also the sim racing hobby has matured in a very competitive sport. Marc refers to the recent one million dollars Visa Vegas e-Race held in Las Vegas.
Marc explains that because the Nürburgring round of the Blancpain GT Sprint Series race is held on the same weekend, many real world GT racing drivers visit the expo and therefore help create the perfect blend between the virtual and the real world racing community.
Marc Hennerici welcomes everyone to visit the Sim Racing Expo at the Nürburgring boulevard on the 16th and 17th of September 2017 and hopes to turn a number of Motorsport fans into Sim Racers, and who knows… some Sim Racers into future real world drivers.
