iRacing and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team have announced that they will bring multiple cars of the successful Formula 1 team to the iRacing online racing platform.
The first car that will be released is the Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance as driven by Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. The Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team has performed extensive testing within iRacing and already provided valuable feedback and data to improve the iRacing open-wheel physics model.
Besides the 2021 Mercedes-AMG F1 W12 E Performance, iRacing will also bring the 2022 Mercedes F1 vehicle to the online racing service. Developing a virtual model of the 2022 car will introduce a number of challenges, as the new technical regulations will include the reintroduction of ground effects, simplified power units, certain standardized components, and larger, 18-inch wheels, among many other changes.
Needless to say, it is too early to forecast a release date window.

We have been working closely with iRacing since the start of 2021 to bring the W12 life in iRacing’s virtual environment, said James Vowles, Motorsport Strategy Director, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. The intent was to create as accurate a representation of W12 as possible from a performance and driving perspective. Throughout the process, we have held a unique and close relationship with the developers, which has generated a model we hope everyone enjoys driving as much as our drivers have.
