Project CARS 2 – Tire Deformation Preview

When talking sim racing tire deformation, most of us will instantly think rFactor 2. That said, the Sightly Mad Studios Project Cars 2 development team is also working on its own tire deforming system. The tire deformation will be part of the Project Cars 2 tire physics model, but will also manifest itself visually. The included video shows us how the upcoming Tire deformation effect will look in-game.

The original Project CARS title already featured a full dynamic tire model (Seta Tire Model (STM) which featured a simulation of the tire carcass, tire tread, contact patch, and tire heat transfer. Now with Project CARS 2, the development team is bringing their tire model to the next level.

It seems that Sightly Mad Studios is pushing the boundaries on both the visual and simulation aspects of their upcoming title. Let’s face it, visually and physically deformable tires are quite a cool addition to what some dare call a sim-cade title. In combination with the new LiveTrack 3.0 technology, featuring dynamic ice, mud, dirt, snow, and asphalt surfaces, the new tire model might just be what the doctor ordered and could lead to a more accurate driving simulation.

Project CARS 2 the ‘ultimate driver journey’ will become available late 2017 for the PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Steam OS. On the consoles, PCars 2 will go head to head with upcoming heavyweights such as Forza Motorsport 7 and Gran Turismo Sport.
