In celebration of the Dutch Zandvoort Circuit returning to the Formula 1 calendar later this year, Studio 397 has announced that the track development team is updating the in-game Zandvoort track to its current 2021 layout and styling.
Circuit Park Zandvoort is a motorsport race track located in the dunes north of the town of Zandvoort, in the Netherlands, near the North Sea coastline. The track was first used on August 7, 1948, and hosted the first Dutch Grand Prix. The first real Formula One race counting for the World Championship was held in 1955. The last Dutch Formula 1 Grand Prix was raced in 1985 and won by Niki Lauda.
In recent years, Circuit Park Zandvoort hosted a vast amount of national and international race series such as the German DTM, FIA European Formula 3 Championship, Blancpain Sprint Series, and ADAC GT Masters. In 2017 the track was renamed from Circuit Park Zandvoort to Circuit Zandvoort.
The Dutch Formula One venue was confirmed as part of the 2020 Grand Prix season calendar.
In early 2020 the real-world circuit received a major update. After four months of rebuilding, improving, accelerating, and widening, the legendary track was ready for the world of Formula 1. However, due to the ongoing pandemic situation, the Dutch GP at Zandvoort was later on postponed to 2021.

New corners, re-profiled sections of track, run-off upgrades, and freshly laid tarmac all make for a very different, but still uniquely Zandvoort experience in 2021, one that we couldn’t wait to revisit and improve upon to ensure rFactor 2 has the most accurate and detailed representation of the circuit anywhere in sim racing.
Although our original pass of the track represented a strong initial effort at bringing a modern Zandvoort to the software, we were aware that the time constraints around release and the simple fact construction work at the circuit was still very much underway would mean we left room to improve in our first release, something we have significantly built upon for this new update.
We originally deployed the 2020 version of Zandvoort to rFactor 2 back in May 2020, well in advance of the resumption of racing at the new configuration, and since then we have gathered significant amounts of new data and reference materials for the track.
From the graphical uplift to the visuals with our PBR shaders, to having spent considerable time completely reworking the circuit layout itself, this new 2021 Zandvoort represents a massive step forward for the track, and one we cannot wait to share with you all once it releases ahead of the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix!
