rFactor – Virtua_LM Junior Team GTPC Preview Video.
Virtua_LM has a team called the Virtua_LM Junior Team working on the GTPC mod for rFactor.
The mod will feature a big selection of classic Le Mans Group C prototypes and GT cars that have contested in the 1980s 24h of Le Mans.
Group C was a category of Motorsport, introduced by the FIA in 1982 for sports car racing, along with Group A for touring cars and Group B for GTs.
It was designed to replace both Group 5 Special Production Cars (closed top touring prototypes like Porsche 935) and Group 6 Two Seater Racing Cars (open-top sportscar prototypes like Porsche 936).
Group C was used in the FIA’s World Endurance Championship (1982–1985), World Sports-Prototype Championship (1986–1990), World Sportscar Championship (1991–1992) and in the European Endurance Championship (1983 only).
It was also used for other sports car racing series around the globe. The final year for the class came in 1993. Broadly similar rules were used in the North American IMSA Grand Touring Prototype series GTP.
History VLM junior team. (Quote)
When Virtua lm made the last service pack for the F1C challenge mod Prototype C The team decided to move on to other projects like The GTX 5 mod for Rfactor that was already in the works.
One of our trackmakers started the Lemans for Rfactor. A lot of team members helped him in creating this track so Time was shifted from Car making into track making.
While Rfactor1 became the mod based game to play the mail was full of requests to convert Prototype C to Rfactor.
The team talked about it and it was clear none of the parties doing that request was one we wanted to do it.
So the idea came to find new members By setting up the so-called Junior team.
This team would be responsible to convert and add new cars to the mod.
In that time we released the Le Mans track with a crude conversion of our F1c cars and showed it in a panorama set on panogames.com
Some of the cars where in our opinion were to bad to be put into Rfactor so we decided to rebuild them.
To make a long story short.
A lot happened in that time.
While there was little support from the SR team due to their own problems.
The JR team moved on in their free time. trying to build something cool.
We really thought it would be easy to start a junior team and expected them to be as dedicated as the senior team.
Sadly our expectations were to high.
Some new members had the same dedication as the SR team some did not so a lot of things were started but never finished.
It is a really huge task to Put all cars we want in game with the right liveries.
While recreating a lot of new cars and scrap all f1c cars The focus shifted away from the later years of Group C, entirely leaving out the Sport 3.5 era
and instead concentrating on the much more privateer orientated 1983 and 1984 seasons.
However some cars from as early on as 1977 will be included, as well as a small number from the early 90’s.
A lot has been talked about for releasing service packs and beta content but the team decided differently.
Sure a lot of people started to complain in the years and probably they where right to do so.
Fact is the team moved on and it was not scraped.
So where does this team stands now?
The mod is now 80% finished.
All Cars we want for now are in the game.
We found errors in the AI. no helmets painted, no UI yet. a lot of bug testing.
so don’t hold your breath.. you will die.
but the team is working as hard as they can while having exams, work, family.
Cheers!!
