Sector3 Studios after One year – R3E is growing up
Back in September of last year, the famous and much loved Swedish developer Simbin Studios closed its doors. This was a sad day for the Sim Racing Community. A few days later, former Simbin Licencing manager Jay Ekkel announced that the studio would continue developing under a new name and at a new location.
Sector3 Studios was born and would continue work where Simbin left off. A team of former Simbin staff continued the development of the RaceRoom Racing Experience simulator.
Now that Sector3 Studios have celebrated their first year as a developer, it becomes clear that the team has been hard at work to push RaceRoom Racing Experience to a new level. Under the Sector 3 flag the R3E title has been undergoing a major transformation.
The last 12 months, RaceRoom Racing Experience has been massively improved on all levels. The development team has taken the wishes of the community into account and have slowly but surely transformed the modest Free2Play title into a competitive sim racing simulator. With an amazing selection of content in both the car and track department, and a ever improving set of features R3E can honestly be called “the most underestimated Sim racing title” out there. And there is still so much more to come. Did we mention the laser scanned Nordschleife?
RaceRoom Racing Experience is also the virtual home of official race series such as DTM, WTCC, and ADAC GT Masters. Sector 3 Studios is further developing the R3E simulator with the help of a huge selection of real world racing drivers who have been active in both GT and Touring Car series.
It is no secret that here at Bsimracing we are huge fans of the R3E simulator. We like the product, but also the heritage of the development team behind it. Sadly enough, we still feel that a big part of the core sim racing community regards the Sector3 title as an underdog and have not been giving it a fair chance. Too many times, we have seen the title criticised by fellow community members without them even trying out the sim itself.
When talking to friends and community members, it often seems as if the “Free2Play” origin of the title has a negative effect on the perception of the product. Some of the people we talked to expected it to be merely a racing game with no depth or realism. Others were confused by the use of the virtual currency when purchasing content in the game. Whatever the reason, we feel that a lot of sim racing fans are missing out on a great opportunity and for all the wrong reasons refuse to see what a great product R3E has become over the last year. Sector3 Studios have clearly steered the title in a new direction and made it one of the most exciting and fastest growing titles out there.
So if you have not yet tried R3E, make sure to head over to the official R3E Steam page, and install the sim for free. We are sure you won’t be disappointed. If you have questions, or like to follow up on the development of the title you can visit the official Sector3 Forum.
Keep in mind that there are always live competitions on the RaceRoom Racing portal, many of which allow you to try out cars and tracks you do not own. Free of cost, no strings attached! You can join competitions and challenges where you can compete for cool prizes or just measure yourself up against friends on the leaderboards. When visiting the RaceRoom Store, you are also invited to test all the cars in a limited environment free of charge. This is definitely a good way to get acquainted with the R3E title.
RaceRoom Racing Experience (R3E) is the worldwide leading free-to-play Motorsport simulations for PC and is your point of access to international race series like ADAC GT Masters, DTM and WTCC as well as legendary race cars and world renowned race tracks.
