The Simpit – Driving School – Acceleration and Braking

This is episode two of the Simpit driving school. This time Shaun Cole talks about two of the most important assets of a race. The way you accelerate, and the way you slow down. A good race start might not determine your finishing position, but it can make allot of difference to the actual race you are driving. The start of a race can get you in or out of trouble. So it is important to understand and master the skill of starting as fast as you can without spinning the tires.

In this episode, Shaun also covers threshold braking. Stamping you foot on the brake is not the fastest, or safest way to slow down a car. This is where threshold braking can make a huge difference. How you break before a corner will also have its effect when you accelerate out of a corner. Understanding the basics of accelerating or decelerating will help you perform better, and bring down those lap times.
