2012 IZOD Dallara IndyCar Series. ($8.62) |
The 2012 IndyCar is the first to use the “IndyCar Safety Cell” recommended by the ICONIC Advisory Committee, which was commissioned in 2010 to shape the future of the sport. The Dallara -developed rolling chassis was named the “DW12” in memory of Dan Wheldon, the two-time Indy 500 winner who helped develop it before losing his life in the final race of the 2011 season. The 2012 car, which made its competitive debut at St. Petersburg, Florida, was originally intended to sport bodywork and “aero kits” developed by multiple third-party manufacturers, but this move was deferred until 2013 with all team owners deciding instead to use Dallara-made body kits. That left the2.4-liter V6 turbocharged engine, supplied by one of Lotus, Honda, or Chevrolet, as the only variable amongst the teams. Each powerplant runs on E85 fuel and is capable of producing between 550 and 700 bhp, with drivers able to significantly boost output thanks to the car’s “push to pass” feature.Buy the Dallara 2012 IndyCar to enter a whole new open-wheel era and pay tribute to one of its most celebrated drivers: the late, great, and much-missed Dan Wheldon. |
