Luxury racing console manufacturer Vesaro announced the new “Vesaro 195” that features the first 65 inch Triple Curved display setup offering a massive 195 inches of screen curving around the seating position of a racing rig. This new model will be shown in a flight setup at this years World Skills show and have its first TV appearance in a racing setup with the 195 Pro on channel 5’s gadget show this Christmas.

That said…

Being promoted as “The ultimate setup for professional training”,  we still have our doubts that this could be taken seriously. As with the previous 55inch LG screens used on the Vesaro rig, the input lag is massive, and is pretty much unsuitable for gaming, let alone an accurate simulation. The 65 inch screens used appear to be the Samsung UE65HU8500 Curved Smart 3D UHD 4K LED TV’s.

The general picture quality is amazing, but the big problem is that the screen suffers from a very high input lag. Even using its Game preset mode it takes the UE65HU8500 around 62ms to reproduce pictures after receiving picture data at its inputs. For a game or simulation, we ideally would want to see a latency of 5ms or less. This means that the 65 inch screens make it very difficult to synchronise your visuals to your control inputs, making it an a generally unsuitable choice for gaming , let alone Simulation.

Therefore, we still believe that the Vesaro consoles are merely a beautiful yet very expensive high-end gadget for entertainment centres, instead of a high performance Simulation training tool.

Vesaro informed us that the Vesaro systems allow any screens to be used of sizes from 27 – 65+ inches. The customer can choose a screen type of his own choice. Units supplied for driver training have the appropriate screens attached, canceling out any latency problems. This way customers can choose between the performance suitable simulation screens or the gaming immersion of slower yet bigger displays.
