What’s Next For Assetto Corsa EVO

Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games have published a new official video announcing they have decided to introduce some changes to Assetto Corsa Evo aimed at balancing Assetto Corsa tradition with exciting new possibilities.

CEO of Kunos Simulazioni, Marco Massarutto, explains some of the planned changes for AC Evo. An updated roadmap with all the details will be shared at a later stage.

Open Mode: The player can race solo anytime, without needing an internet connection, except for Special Events with online leaderboards.

Career Mode: A more balanced structure to progression, the Driving Academy, and an in-game economy. This mode works independently of an online connection, with internet access required only for Special Events.

Refined AI: Realistic, dynamic AI with persistent identities. Drivers’ behavior changes with skill level, helping players track progress. Ongoing improvements will be made.

Modding Tools: These are coming earlier than initially announced, during the Early Access Program, instead of after the final 1.0 release, to empower and support our creative community.

Performance Upgrades: Optimized for VR, multi-screen setups, and overall performance enhancements.

Multiplayer Improvements: Redesigned netcode for smoother online sessions.

Stefano Casillo Returns: KUNOS Simulazioni Founder and now CTO is back to guide the technical development team of Assetto Corsa EVO.

Official Press Release:

What’s Next: Assetto Corsa EVO:

Since its launch on January 16, Assetto Corsa EVO has achieved milestones beyond our expectations. This success has been made possible thanks to your support and the passion you continue to show us. Over the past few months, the team has been working tirelessly on improvements and updates, and we’re truly grateful for your continued encouragement.

That said, we’re aware that some aspects of the game called for deeper reflection. Today, we want to share with you the decisions we’ve made—some of which were inspired directly by your feedback.

Your input has been invaluable in helping us refine the game. After thoughtful consideration, we’ve decided to introduce some changes aimed at bringing the experience closer to our DNA. These updates represent a new step forward for Assetto Corsa EVO—balancing tradition with exciting new possibilities.

What’s New:

We’re introducing several key changes designed to enhance your experience across the board.

Coming soon is the brand-new Open Mode, which will allow you to enjoy driving without the need for an internet connection. At the same time, your journey and driver progress in AC EVO will continue through Career Mode, which brings together progression, in-game economy, and the Driving Academy; all of this will also come without the need of a constant connection to backend services. Special Events, which require an internet connection—similar to our previous title, Assetto Corsa Competizione—will be available in both Open and Career Modes.

On the technical side, we’re working on overall performance improvements, with optimizations for all users, including those using VR and triple-screen setups, as well as enhancements aimed at smoother gameplay and increased stability—with promising results so far.

Improvements also reflect on AI algorithms. AI drivers will now retain their names and exhibit different behaviors depending on their skill level—meaning the same virtual driver could be a pole-sitter at lower AI levels and a mid-fielder at higher ones. This will allow players to track their personal progress more easily as they face increasingly competitive opponents. We’re also fine-tuning AI behavior and will continue to implement additional improvements over time.

A redesigned user interface for AI opponent grids will give you greater control when setting up Single Player Quick Races, and the new Custom Race Weekend feature will add depth to your solo racing experience.

Looking ahead to multiplayer, we’re currently testing internal sessions with solid results. Our third Early Access release—coming this summer—will bring the first public version of multiplayer, featuring a redesigned netcode and ongoing improvements for a stable and competitive online experience.

We’re also moving up the release of several highly requested cars, including open-wheelers that have been missing in an Assetto Corsa title since 2017. Additionally, modding tools, originally planned after the 1.0 release, will now be made available during the Early Access program, giving you the chance to experiment and push the game’s potential even further. We can’t wait to see what you’ll create!

An updated roadmap with all the details will be shared at a later stage.

Stefano Casillo Returns:

Our goal is to deliver nothing less than the best Assetto Corsa ever: that’s why we’re thrilled to welcome back Stefano Casillo, Founder of KUNOS Simulazioni, as our Chief Technical Officer.

His return is more than just an organizational change—it’s a statement of intent. Stefano’s experience and technical vision will help shape Assetto Corsa EVO by bringing his experience into developing a platform that is aiming to evolve into new possibilities, with all the related challenges to face.

Your Feedback Matters:

Your input remains essential. Every report, suggestion, and piece of constructive criticism helps us improve Assetto Corsa EVO. Keep sharing your thoughts through our official forms—you’re a vital part of this journey.
